Introductions!

I would like to introduce myself. My name is Ken Mundy and I am the Librarian Assistant at Lummi Nation School. I have been with the school for three years, last year teaching 7th and 8th grade math, literature, and Washington State History. We are currently without a librarian at this moment. Chip Wolf, the previous librarian, moved on to work with the Blaine School District at the Primary School.

Besides bringing the website on-line, I am expanding the library from its original beautiful beginning so that there is more selection and sections that will interest the high school readers. There is also a large Native American section that extends from tribal legends & tales to information on specific tribes and leaders.

Thousands of Books!

There are thousands of books from the old library, donations from other libraries, and from local bookstores that make up a fabulous multimedia library.

We not only have books of all genres, but books on tape, videos, DVDs, Leapfrog leappads for phonics practice and Leapfrog Quantum pads for reading and math practice. All is available for checkout to students and staff.

Library News & New Release books

Be sure to check out Sherman Alexi's new novel The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. If you are interested in learning more about this wonderful local author or any of his novels, here is his website link: Sherman Alexi Official Website

This was my first book fair. I am proud to say that it was a huge success. Our sales were over $2,300 for the week. I want to thank all who came and purchased either a book or nicknack to go along with a book.

It was great to see the enthusiasm the students had in looking over the selection, making thoughtful decisions on just the right book and demonstrating that teamwork and creative thinking is still strong in this day and age with students pooling their money to purchase a more expense item and another item for the same price for free.

I look forward to hosting the book fair again next year while trying to outdo the sales for this year. My goal is to do about $2,400 in sales and continue to do a Buy-one-get one-free type of fair. We as a school don't receive and of the revenue collected but students receive twice as many books to read and cherish.

So, I would like to thank all who helped in making this year's book fair a huge success, especially my two high school volunteers Monica Thomas and Erica Edwards as well as Mr. Weigand's and Ms. Cherry's 5th grade class who helped in setting up the fair.

I have finished the redesign of the library. I now have a map of the layout posted on the bulletin board as you come in. The Middle School/ High School Alcove that houses age and interest level books is organized and will be fully cataloged by the time next school year roles around.

I would like to thank those who have donated their cherished book collection so that our library can house the best collection for the students of this school. The selection is growing and the students appreciate the wide variety of books to choose from and peruse to gain insight, knowledge, or enjoyment.

As the 2007-2008 school year comes to a close, I would like to take this opportunity the wish everyone a fun and safe summer. I hope as many you come to this year's summer school and continue to make gains in reading. I look forward to seeing all of you next year ready to learn and have a great year. Don't forget to visit the library every once in a while.

Remember: Don't just read, but READ FOR FUN!!!!!!

Your faithful Asst. Librarian,
Mr. Mundy
